Privacy Policy

MUJ Digital LTD · Last updated

This policy explains the personal information handled through Property Hunt’s website and related services, including property searches, listings, enquiries and professional workspaces. Read it alongside our Terms of Use and Cookie Policy.

1. Who is responsible

Property Hunt is operated by MUJ Digital LTD. For account administration, our marketplace, security, billing and our own service operations, MUJ Digital LTD determines why and how personal information is used. You can contact us about this policy or a privacy request at support@propertyhunt.ng.

Agents, agencies, landlords and other professionals may separately determine how they use client, applicant and tenancy information. When we store or manage those records on a business customer’s instructions, our role may be that of a processor. That customer remains responsible for its purposes, permissions and notices. This does not remove our responsibilities for our own processing or prevent you from contacting us for help.

2. Information we handle

Accounts and professional verification

We handle names, email addresses, registration phone numbers, country, account type, password hashes, account preferences and sign-in/security information. Professional users may provide company or agency details, licence details and identity or company documents for review. We retain review decisions, relevant evidence and audit records. We do not describe an unreviewed professional as verified.

Listings and public profiles

This includes property descriptions, location and address, price and price period, features, photos, media links, availability, listing history and any contact numbers you choose to publish. Published listing information and directory profiles can be seen by visitors, indexed by search engines and shared by others. Private agent instructions and verification documents are not public listing fields.

Enquiries, applications and business records

We process the contact details, messages, viewing requests, scheduling changes and replies you submit. Rental applications include the fields shown on the application form and the decisions recorded by the professional handling them. Agents can also record client requirements, budgets, shortlists and feedback; landlord and tenant contact details; agreements, rent and payment records; deposits, expenses, inspections, repairs, photos and documents. Some people named in these records may not have an account.

Saved searches, transactions and technical records

We handle saved properties, saved searches, alert preferences and relevant alert-link activity, together with account search history where that feature is used. For paid platform services, we handle plan details, payment status, amounts, references and receipts. Payment credentials are entered with the payment provider; we do not store full card numbers or card security codes.

Security and audit records can include IP addresses, browser information, timestamps and actions. Optional first-party performance measurement counts listing and sponsored-placement activity using a keyed account or browser identifier, subject to your choices described below. Reports of a listing include the reason and explanation supplied; repeat-report detection can use a keyed identifier rather than your contact details.

3. Purposes and legal bases

  • Providing the service: we use the information needed to create and secure your account, publish content you submit, deliver enquiries and business tools, and administer a purchase. Where applicable, this is necessary to perform our agreement with you or take steps you request before entering one.
  • Safety and service operation: proportionate access logs, abuse prevention, moderation, duplicate detection, dispute handling and service diagnostics support our legitimate interests in protecting users and operating a reliable marketplace. These interests must be balanced against your rights.
  • Your choices: we rely on consent for optional browser analytics and any direct marketing that requires it. You can refuse or withdraw consent without losing ordinary search or contact functionality. Alert subscriptions can be stopped using their unsubscribe links or account controls.
  • Legal requirements: where an applicable law requires us to retain a record, respond to an authority or make a disclosure, the relevant legal obligation is the basis for that use. A general reference to fraud prevention does not mean that every verification check is legally required.

If you provide another person’s information, you must be entitled to do so and provide any notices and permissions your use requires. Do not upload sensitive information that is unnecessary for the task. Where sensitive information or identity evidence needs additional legal protection, those requirements apply in addition to the bases above.

4. Disclosure and access

  • Advertisers and recipients you choose: the professional handling your enquiry or application receives its contents. Authorised co-listing agents or assigned agency staff may have access appropriate to their permissions.
  • Workspace and portal users: owners and administrators of a business workspace can manage authorised staff access. Landlord and tenant portals display information and documents the agent chooses to share with the confirmed account. Shared files are not automatically redacted.
  • Private-link recipients: people with valid enquiry, invitation or shortlist links can access the information that link permits. A shortlist does not expose the agent’s private client requirements, but shared feedback can be visible to other holders. Keep these links private.
  • Property Hunt staff and providers: authorised personnel and service providers access information needed for support, verification, security, communications and the service being delivered.
  • Legal disclosures: information may be disclosed when required by a valid legal process, or where a lawful, necessary and proportionate disclosure protects rights or addresses misuse. If the business changes ownership, any lawful transfer must protect the information and be communicated where required.

We do not sell personal information or give advertisers a right to use private enquiries for unrelated marketing. Aggregated market summaries must not identify an individual or expose private account records. A paid promotion does not give its advertiser access to other users’ private data.

5. Providers and overseas processing

Our infrastructure uses Hetzner hosting and encrypted backup storage, including backup storage in Germany. Postmark is used for configured email delivery. Where paid checkout is available, Paystack processes payment information under its own notices. Map tiles can be requested directly from OpenStreetMap’s tile service, or the map provider identified in the map’s attribution. Those requests expose your IP address and the requested map area to that provider. External video, tour and WhatsApp links are governed by the external service’s practices when you open them.

Processing by these providers can take place outside Nigeria. International transfers must meet the Nigeria Data Protection Act’s requirements, including an applicable transfer condition and the safeguards required for the circumstances. Contact support@propertyhunt.ng for information about a transfer relevant to your data. This policy does not claim that every country or provider has an adequacy finding.

External identity or screening integrations are used only where enabled for the relevant service. We do not claim to run an automated identity check merely because software for that provider is available.

6. Cookies and communications

Essential cookies support sign-in and country selection. Guest saved properties and searches use browser storage. Optional listing and promotion analytics are off until you allow them in cookie settings; Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control signals override that permission. Security, transactional records and necessary service logs are separate from optional analytics.

We may send sign-in codes, password resets, messages needed for your account, alerts you request and configured tenancy or document reminders. A business user may initiate reminders from its records. Alert emails include the relevant unsubscribe controls. Agreeing to these terms does not by itself sign you up for third-party offers.

7. Retention and security

We keep personal information for the purpose for which it is needed, taking account of active accounts, ongoing tenancies, disputes, fraud prevention, legal duties and the rights of other people. Expiry of a subscription does not automatically erase business records. Ask us about the retention of a specific record or request deletion; we will explain any lawful reason for keeping it.

Listing activity events have a 90-day retention window and are scheduled for pruning. Other categories, including account, verification, conversation, tenancy, promotion and audit records, do not all have the same automatic deletion period. Rotating backups are retained separately from the live service; deleting an active record does not immediately remove a backup copy. Backups are protected and replaced through their rotation.

Controls include password hashing, access restrictions, private document storage, protection for sensitive fields, malware scanning of uploads and encrypted backups. Optional two-step sign-in is available. No service can guarantee absolute security. If a personal-data breach occurs, applicable notification and remedial obligations apply.

8. Your rights and requests

Subject to the applicable conditions and exceptions, you can request access, correction, erasure, restriction, objection or a portable copy of your information, and withdraw consent for processing based on consent. You also have rights relating to significant decisions made solely by automated processing. Withdrawal does not make earlier lawful processing unlawful.

Email support@propertyhunt.ng with the request and enough information to locate the relevant account or record. Do not send passwords, card security codes or unnecessary identity documents. We may request proportionate proof of identity or authority, protect other people’s information, and explain any refusal, limitation or extension. We handle requests within applicable legal time limits; a request does not require a paid account.

You can edit available account/profile details, remove saved items, adjust alert settings, withdraw an application where supported, or unpublish a professional profile using the relevant controls. Account deletion and a full personal-data export are currently handled by request, not an automated self-service button. If an agent controls the record, we can help identify the appropriate party and cooperate with its response; you do not lose your right to contact us or a regulator.

9. Children and automated decisions

Accounts and professional services are intended for people aged 18 or over. If a record supplied by a parent, tenant or business customer contains information about a child, only information necessary for the legitimate task should be provided and applicable safeguards must be observed. Contact us if you believe a child’s information has been handled improperly.

Automated matching, reminders, listing expiry and duplicate flags support the service. A duplicate flag is not a finding of fraud, and verification or moderation review is distinct from establishing property ownership. You can contact us to question a decision and request an explanation or human review where applicable.

10. Updates and complaints

We update the date above when this policy changes. Significant changes will be brought to affected users’ attention through the website or an appropriate account communication; where new consent is needed, it must be obtained separately.

Send privacy complaints to support@propertyhunt.ng. You may also complain directly to the Nigeria Data Protection Commission; you do not have to waive that right or wait for our permission.
